PADI Discover Scuba Dive

Discover Scuba Diving in Cyprus - a very special experience

Are you fascinated by the underwater world? Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be weightless? Experience the feeling of breathing underwater? Or just swim with the fish? Then the PADI Discover Scuba Diving - trial dive with us in Agia Napa / Protaras is the perfect excursion for you.

After a theoretical introduction and some paperwork, we go straight to the sea. We don't bother you with a swim in a pool first, because the conditions at Green Bay allow us to take you directly into the sea and show you the underwater world immediately. In Cyprus, we are proud to have an underwater paradise which a lot to offer you, and if you are lucky enough you may catch a glimpse of one of our resident Turtles or Seahorses.

The ‘Discover Scuba Diving’ course is the perfect way for anyone to experience the thrill of scuba diving. It is generally the first step that most divers take and is all done in a relaxed and enjoyable environment and really is a great experience for all individuals who take part.

MEETING POINT

We offer pickup services in the region of Paralimni, Protaras, and Agia Napa. We collect you directly from the hotel at the reception and bring you to the diving school in Pernera. If your hotel is right next to our diving school, you can of course come to us on foot or in your car.

WELCOME

On arrival at the diving school, you will meet your diving instructor who will ensure your comfort on our premises. You will then be required to fill out the obligatory paperwork. Of course, you also get something to drink from us (NO ALCOHOL).

THEORY

Afterward, there will be time for your theory input with your diving instructor. Here you will learn, among other things,
... how pressure equalization works
... what equipment you need for diving
... how we move underwater
... how we protect the underwater world and why

EQUIPMENT

Now it's about finding the right equipment for you. We have a large selection of sizes and you will also find separate toilets and enough space to change. As soon as we have everything together, we load the equipment onto our vehicle and drive to the dive site

SHALLOW WATER

Upon arrival at the dive site, we help with your equipment with a secondary check to ensure everything is in order and more importantly safe for the dive and then it's straight into the sea. Where we enter it is very calm and clear and is only standing water. Here we can slowly get used to breathing underwater. We are happy to take a little more time here as it is very important to us that you feel comfortable and that all questions are answered.

DIVING

As soon as you feel comfortable we ask you to give us the OK sign and then we slowly dive out of the bay. Here too, we do everything step by step. The bay drops very slowly, which allows us to slowly dive deeper along the bottom. It is not imperative that we reach a certain depth. Remember at all times, this is your dive and you may, of course, tell us to stop anytime if you don't want to go deeper or don't feel safe for whatever reason. There is a lot to discover even on a shallow dive. However, if you feel comfortable, we will dive to a maximum depth of 10 meters, where you will find an idyllic spot for the perfect photo opportunity. This area is full of statues to admire and pose with. From this point, we move slowly back around and begin the ascent back into the bay.

CONCLUSION

Back at the diving school, we will take 5 to sit down, have a drink, and a nibble, and talk about what we experienced. If you are interested, you can also buy photos or a video of your first dive here. You will also have the option of taking a shower or drinking or eating something directly at our connected Restaurant The Tipsy Turtle. By now we are confident you will be as fascinated by diving as we are. You have the option of obtaining the PADI Open Water Diver license. You can find more information here.

We will then be happy to drive you back to the hotel.

The right thing for everyone

More information about the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course

We offer our diving for beginners in German, English, and French. We attach great importance to making you feel comfortable. We understand it's a big step. Therefore, we always keep our groups as small as possible so that we can take enough time for each one.

How do I get to you?

In front of the dive centre there are free parking spaces and a bus station is only a 2 minute walk away. We also offer transportation from your hotel in the Pernera, Protaras, and Agia Napa region for a small extra cost.

What do I learn in theory and is there an exam?

The most important question for you in advance: No, there is no test that you have to pass during a trial dive.

During the theory input, we will familiarise you with diving equipment so that you also know what you are getting from us. We also go through some general diving theories such as the pressure difference, the heat conduction of water, how we can communicate underwater, and other very interesting properties of diving. What is never neglected with us, is the protection of the underwater world and what we can do as divers.

Do I need my own equipment?

No, of course not. You don't need to buy or bring any equipment. However, if you have your own mask, you are welcome to take it with you. We will check beforehand whether it is a diving mask or snorkel mask (yes, there are differences). Otherwise, we offer you everything you need for your diving adventure in Cyprus. We offer you top equipment that is regularly maintained.

The following equipment is required for diving:

Diving mask, breathing regulator, vest, wetsuit, fins, and booties, lead and a diving bottle filled with air.

We show you exactly what all this is in the theory session.

Do we dive from the boat or from the shore?

We are very lucky here in Cyprus that we have dive sites right on the shore. The most famous dive site is the Green Bay in Protaras which is only a few minutes away from us. Here we have a natural pool without waves and currents with standing water depth. We can do our exercises perfectly and dive slowly from the shore. So, we don't jump from a boat into the deep blue and then let us sink straight down. This means you can get used to breathing underwater very slowly.

How long is the dive and can I dive alone?

The dive lasts between 20 and 30 minutes depending on how much air you need and how comfortable you are. We also spend another 10 to 20 minutes in shallow water where we do our exercises.

You will never be alone during the whole dive but will always be accompanied by at least one instructor. We will take over a large part of the tasks for you, so you can concentrate fully on the fascinating underwater world. But you can also take on a few small tasks yourself. You control your air consumption (of course we keep a constant eye on it), you balance the pressure and communicate with us.

Do I have a license after the trial dive?

No - trial diving is not an education. However, your trial dive for training can count towards the PADI Open Water Diver or PADI Scuba Diver training.

Can I come for a second try dive?

Yes of course! And at a cheaper price. Just ask your instructor about the trial dive. However, if you liked it so much, depending on the time available, we recommend taking the PADI Scuba Diver (1 to 2 days) or the PADI Open Water Diver (3 to 4 days).
