Why we love this spot

De Costa Bay is far more than just a picturesque bay in Protaras – it is the centre of our ecological commitment. As an official partner of PADI AWARE Foundation, we have taken this stretch of coastline under our personal protection as part of the global Adopt the Blue programme.

Unfortunately, the bay is a prime example of the challenges of modern tourism. While tourist boats frequently visit the area and marine life is often illegally fed, we at the Cyprus Diving Centre are taking a clear stand against this practice.

As part of our Project Xenios, we are actively dedicated to the protection and research of local sea turtles. We are regularly on site to:

🐢 Monitor the health of the turtle population
🚮 Conduct regular Dive Against Debris dives to clean the bay from marine litter

Despite these challenges, De Costa Bay remains a fascinating dive site for divers of all levels:

A nursery of the sea:
Especially in July, the bay turns into a nursery for countless juvenile fish. It is a magical sight to observe schools of tiny baby barracudas taking their first journeys.

Ideal for beginners:
The sheltered conditions and shallow areas make the bay perfect for beginners. Our specially installed underwater training course provides the ideal environment to playfully improve your buoyancy skills.

Dive in with the Cyprus Diving Centre and become part of our mission. At De Costa Bay, you don’t just experience the beauty of the ocean – you actively contribute to its protection.

Crew Tip!

This dive site is particularly well suited for an afternoon dive. At this time of day, the tourist boats have usually already left the area. Unfortunately, the turtles in this region are often fed by boats, which affects their natural behaviour and is problematic for the animals. Even after the boats have left the site, many turtles remain in the area and are most often found near the surface.
