During an IDC, you're not being prepared for the IE, but rather for becoming a good PADI Instructor. Therefore, the IE won't be a problem. Of course, it can always happen that you don't pass the IE, usually due to nerves. But that's not the end of the world. You can retake the IE. Your PADI Course Director will support you.

The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the comprehensive training program for divers who want to become professional diving instructors. It combines theory, practice, and teaching methodology. It consists of the PADI Assistant Instructor course and thePADI OWSI course .

To participate in the IDC, you must be a certified PADI Divemaster (or equivalent), at least 18 years old, and have a valid medical certificate for diving. Additionally, a certain number of logged dives and current first aid and CPR certifications are required and should be verified before the course begins.

The Instructor Examination (IE) is the final official PADI examination, taken after the Instructor Development Course (IDC). It consists of written exams, presentations, and practical teaching sessions. The IDC specifically prepares participants for this exam.

IDC candidates are generally expected to own their own complete diving equipment. Certain pieces of equipment may be available for rent on site – this should be clarified with the dive center in advance.

The IDC is an intensive and demanding program that requires commitment and preparation. However, with the right attitude and support from experienced PADI Course Directors, it is well-structured and can be completed successfully.

After successfully completing the course and passing the IE (Instructor Experience), you can work worldwide as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. This opens up opportunities in dive centers, resorts, on liveaboards, or as a self-employed diving instructor.
