Visit the underwater sculptures of Ayia Napa
Since its grand opening on August 1st, 2021, the Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa (MUSAN) has become a unique and powerful attraction in the eastern Mediterranean. This thoughtfully designed underwater sculpture park is the masterpiece of renowned artist Jason deCaires Taylor, a name synonymous with marine conservation and art.
With his socially critical works, the artist aims to send a strong message about the importance of protecting our delicate marine ecosystems. The Mediterranean's animal population has faced a significant decline over the years, and deCaires Taylor's exhibition is a call to action. His vision is to re-imagine the sea not as a barren or threatened environment, but as a vibrant space of gentle coexistence where art and nature merge. The sculptures themselves are crafted from inert, pH-neutral materials, creating an artificial reef that actively encourages marine life to flourish, turning the art into a living, evolving habitat.
MUSAN offers a truly unforgettable experience, inviting divers and snorkelers to explore this submerged forest and witness firsthand how art can play a vital role in marine regeneration.

The power of nature
Change
In recent months, we've been thrilled to watch the underwater world embrace the museum. We've seen algae growing on the artificial trees and kelp sculptures, and small schools of fish have taken up residence. We're also seeing more and more crayfish and cuttlefish.
The sculptures are installed at a shallow depth of 8-10 meters, making the site accessible even for beginners. To protect the museum, a diving license is required for all divers. However, the museum can also be enjoyed from the surface by snorkeling or freediving.
We reach the museum by boat from the old port of Ayia Napa, and a typical dive lasts about 45 minutes.
