PADI Open Water Diver Course

Learn to dive in Cyprus with German-speaking diving instructors

As a diver, the whole world is open to you. You can dive practically anywhere in the world. Whether in a crystal-clear mountain lake in Switzerland, or in the Maldives with its colorful coral reefs, or right here in Cyprus with its amazing wrecks and incredible visibility.

Your first big step into the world of diving begins with the PADI Open Water Diver course. In just 3 days, you'll learn everything you need to explore the most beautiful dive sites in the world. We prioritize small groups and a relaxed learning environment. At the end of the course, you'll be qualified to dive locally or internationally to a depth of 18 meters and to advocate for the protection of the underwater world.

What awaits you?

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three parts:

Part One:

Theory. Yes, theory is part of diving too – but we promise you, it can be quite exciting. Thanks to PADI eLearning, you can complete this part from home, so you don't have to spend time with us in the classroom. You also have the option of downloading the theory and studying offline – for example, on the beach. We're always available to answer your questions. Before your final exam, we'll have a short review session with you to clarify any remaining questions.

Part Two:

Confined open water. For the PADI Open Water Diver course, we first dive in a pool or a dive site in the sea with pool-like conditions. This means: shallow water depth, good visibility, and confined spaces on the sides. Here, we learn the first exercises above and below the water to perfectly prepare you for your first dive. Here too, we follow our motto: "Learning with joy and fun."

Part Three:

Open water. Now it's time to head to the sea! Your training includes a total of four open water dives. Here, you'll demonstrate the skills you learned in the pool to your instructor and get used to the underwater world. Believe us: it's an indescribable feeling to swim weightlessly among the fish.

The first dive is always very easy and relaxed, because it's mainly about getting used to the new environment. After that, each dive includes further exercises to make you a safe diver.

As a certified Open Water Diver, you are permitted to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters. Depending on how comfortable you feel during your third or fourth dive, we will descend to a maximum depth of 18 meters to give you a taste of this. Please note the different depth limits for Junior Open Water Divers .

You also have the option of completing the theory and pool dives at your home location and only doing the open water dives in the sea with us. In this case, please inform us by email.

There's something for everyone.

Further information

How do I get to you?

You have several options. There is free parking directly in front of our dive center, and a bus station is a 2-minute walk away. We can also pick you up from your accommodation in the Paralimni, Protaras, and Agia Napa area. There is a small additional charge for this service.

What will I learn in the theory sessions, and is there an exam?

In the theory section, you'll learn about water, equipment, and general diving theory. To test your knowledge, we'll conclude each topic with a short quiz. Finally, there will be a theory exam.

But you don't need to be afraid of that :-) The theory is really very interesting, not very complicated, and will be quite helpful to you underwater.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. You don't need your own equipment for this course. We have everything on site. However, if you have your own mask, you're welcome to bring it. In that case, we'll check whether it's a diving or snorkeling mask (yes, there are significant differences). Otherwise, we provide everything you need for your diving adventure in Cyprus: top-quality equipment that is regularly maintained. The following equipment is required for diving:

Diving mask, breathing regulator, buoyancy compensator, wetsuit, fins and booties, lead and an air-filled diving cylinder.

You already learned how all of this works in the theory section, and this will be reinforced with practical exercises.

How deep can I dive as a PADI Open Water Diver?

After completing your PADI Open Water Diver certification, you are permitted to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters with a buddy. As a PADI Scuba Diver, you are permitted to dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters with a dive instructor or dive guide.

Are we diving from the boat or from the shore?

We are very fortunate here in Cyprus to have fantastic dive sites right off the shore. One of the most famous dive sites is Green Bay in Protaras, which is only a few minutes away. Here we have a natural pool with no waves or currents and shallow water. It's the perfect place for us to practice our skills and descend slowly and comfortably from the shore.

Why do I actually need a diving license?

You can dive without a license. This is called a Discover Scuba Diving experience, which you can do as often as you like. However, Discover Scuba Diving has some limitations and disadvantages. Its main purpose is to give you the opportunity to try diving without having to commit to a full course. With the PADI Open Water certification, however, you can dive independently – and even to greater depths than during a Discover Scuba Diving experience.

Should I go diving alone with a friend right after my diving training?

This naturally depends on your buddy's experience. Theoretically, as a PADI Open Water Diver, you're licensed to dive alone with a buddy who is also at least an Open Water Diver. However, we strongly advise against this. Always make sure your buddy is at least a PADI Rescue Diver or has logged several dives.
